Imagine - My Friend Dahmer

Jeffrey Dahmer is a shy schoolboy, son of a weak father and emotionally unstable mother. After faking a spasm attack, some of his classmates see this as a cool thing and Jeffrey becomes part of their circle. Not your average coming-of-age story based on Derf Backderf's graphic memoir of his friendship with the boy who would become a serial killer.

If it wasn't about the notorious serial killer, My Friend Dahmer would watch like a compelling coming of age story. Knowing it's about Dahmer we always have this tingling in the back of our head, making us see every event in perspective of what he's become. Jeffrey (a great role by Ross Lynch) is not portrayed as a weirdo, but as a troubled and lonely outsider. The major achievement of the film is that you want the best for Jeffrey, even though you know that didn”t happen. In that sense, what looks like a high school drama is actually a sinister tragedy, terrifically brought to the screen.
