Imagine Special - Tinkering with DNA
Creating new life and manipulating existing life is a common thread in all fantastic fiction, from Frankenstein and The Fly to Planet of the Apes and De Lift. With CRISPR/Cas9, cutting and pasting within human DNA is more within reach than ever before and besides enthusiasm about the possibilities, this also raises questions about the boundaries.
Synthetic biologist Nadine Bongaerts, co-founder of Science Matters, will use many film clips to explain how fantastic film has shaped bio-computers, reverse engineering, CRISPR/Cas9 and much more, as well as what today”s practice actually looks like.
This talk will be followed by the film Monstrum.
