Imagine - The Big Lebowski: 20th Anniversary!

The highly relaxed Lebowsky, nicknamed The Dude, sees his life of leisure ruined one day by two gangsters who mistake him for a millionaire with the same name. After the two have ruined his rug, The Dude goes to see his namesake for compensation. It”s the beginning of an adventure that soon becomes more than he can handle. Cult film by The Coen Brothers has lost none of its popularity after twenty years.

We haven”t investigated thoroughly, but The Big Lebowski is probably the only film with its own church: The Church of the Latter-Day Dude, with Dudeism as its doctrine. Silly nonsense of course, but it does show that The Dude, his bowling buddies Walter and Donny, and the other eccentrics inhabiting that universe are deeply ingrained in our collective consciousness. Maybe the frequency and eagerness with which a film is quoted is the best way to measure its status. So, all together now: “Nobody fucks with the Jesus!” And what does The Dude think of it all? The Dude abides.
