Many Chechens live in the area Pitsaevs inherited land in, including his mother’s family, who also once fled the war. His mother hopes he will build a house there, however Déni, who grew up in France has doubts. Once there, he is immediately accepted into the community. His immediate family also comes to visit with everyone wondering when is Déni finally going to get married? The trip is beautifully envisioned and subtly told with silences often saying more than words whilst also touching on issues including gender roles, individual freedom, war traumas and the sense of belonging. Won the prize for Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival.
