In Person: Ulrich Seidl

In his unsettling films, Ulrich Seidl confronts us with the lives of a number of seemingly ordinary individuals; people searching for love, happiness and affection in their own ways, striving to make something of life in a late-capitalist society in which meaning has been replaced by consumerism.

Seidl has also filmed Austrian basements, a safari, the world inhabited by models, the sex tourism industry, a schlager singer in Rimini in winter – everywhere seeing love go unfulfilled. In his films and documentaries – Eye is screening them all – he reports on everyday madness.

This evening, richly illustrated by clips, Seidl will take us deeper into his black-and-white comedies. This artist talk is made possible in cooperation with IDFA, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.
