Three years after The Apartment (1960) Billy Wilder, Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine got back together for Irma la Douce, a bittersweet comedy in Technicolor about a guileless Parisian copper Nestor Patou (Lemmon) who falls in love with a prostitute (MacLaine) and vows to protect her.

Irma la Douce won an Oscar for Best Music and a Golden Globe for Best Actress (MacLaine). Irma la Douce is based on the French musical of the same name by Marguerite Monnot.
