Jia Zhang-ke “Social observations”
Vive le cinéma!
Film journalist Dana Linssen takes a stroll through the work of Jia Zhang-ke with Anne Sytske Keijser, interpreter and lecturer at Leiden University Institute for Area Studies (LIAS). Along the way they will discuss his specific form of social observation on the basis of clips from his films. The discussion will be followed by a screening of Unknown Pleasures.

In Jia Zhang-ke’s work (Platform, Still Life, Ash is Purest White) the gaze is steadfastly anchored on a changing China. Painstakingly, he observes and records the interactions between social and personal change.
