‘Integration’ is a much busied term across Dutch society, but what does it really mean? Documentary maker Ton van Zantvoort follows how newcomers to the country take the Municipality of Breda’s ‘Integration Course’. Wry-comedic look at a system full of good intentions.
The new Integration Act came into effect on 1 January 2022 making municipalities responsible for the integration of those new to the country. To do so the Municipality of Breda created its ‘Klantreis inburgering’ or ‘Integration Course’. Institutions provide newcomers with information on housing, finance, language, culture and employment with the support of a local buddy.
