Kokomo City
D. Smith / US, 2023 / 73 min.
Refreshing, no-filter documentary about four Black trans sex workers in New York and Georgia. A taboo-busting film full of humour and real conversations, without any sugar-coating. D. Smith, producer of Lil Wayne and Ciara, lyrically records their beauty and their ordeals.

Kokomo City is the raw, swinging debut film from producer and singer-songwriter D. Smith, who made history as the first trans woman to be cast in a prime-time reality TV show. She follows four Black trans sex workers in Atlanta and New York, as they break down the taboos surrounding their profession with a great deal of flair. Daniella Carter, Koko Da Doll, Liyah Mitchell and Dominique Silver talk candidly about their dreams, uncertainties, crises and the latest gossip. Smith’s sizzling visual style perfectly complements the bravura of these trans women.
Pre-film
