Lawrence of Arabia

David Lean / GB, 1962

Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif were still virtually unknown when David Lean’s classic turned them into major stars. O’Toole is T.E. Lawrence, the British officer who in WWI gained the trust of Arab sheiks in the battle against the pro-German Turks. The riveting score by Maurice Jarre won an Oscar, as did Freddie Young’s sumptuous cinematography.
