Parisians get into their cars en masse at the weekend to drive out to 'la campagne', resulting in traffic chaos, wildness, cannibalism and many other forms of bourgeois bankruptcy. Apocalyptic, anarchic satire about deadlocked consumer society.

<em>Week-end</em> is a satire full of cultural quotations, which itself then became a major icon of the bankruptcy of a childish and ruthless form of capitalism that believes 'big is best, and quantity is quality'. The scene for which cameraman Raoul Coutard laid 300 metres of rails is justly famous: an endlessly tooting congested jam of cars carrying people being eaten up by boredom and frustration.

The legendary filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard died on 13 September 2022. Hugo Emmerzael (Filmkrant) will provide a brief lecture as an homage, accompanying the screening of Le livre d’image, in which Godard eviscerates our assumptions about the realism of reality in a collage of images, sounds and language.

Which images do we select to tell which stories and whose reality is expressed in those stories (known as cinema)? This is one of the themes in the extensive oeuvre of filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, who died in September aged 92.

<p>Eye on Art also focuses on experimental work by the new generation of makers and creators Researchlabs and the rich and animated history of the avant-garde film (Masters of the Avantgarde).The programme is not tied to a strict format and ranges from artist’s talks by filming artists, film evenings put together by artists or special programmes to accompany art exhibitions. All editions of Eye on Art are introduced by a talk, a piece of music or a brief performance. In English.</p>
