Meet the Archive: theatre maker Danny van Zuijlen will talk about the unique collection of films amassed by the huge 1910 Broadway star Louisette who, before her career took off, worked as a housekeeper in Amsterdam. A life of ambition, sacrifice, love and loneliness.

From desperate poverty on the Nes in Amsterdam to Broadway star: Louisa van Geijtenbeek (1882 - 1965) lived an impossible life. She was discovered by a famous variety comedian whilst working for him as a housekeeper and grasped her opportunity with both hands. A fabulous career followed with sold out shows at Carré [NL] to being received like royalty in the Dutch East Indies [modern day Indonesia] and a spectacular tour of America, until fate struck during World War Two ….
