Meditations in an Emergency
This Isn’t the Future I Ordered: Meditations in an Emergency
An evening dedicated to using imaginary and filmed images to pull yourself out of a crisis. A unique combination of an extract from a video game and an acclaimed essay film tells the story of two men who try to free themselves from despair without ever leaving their heads.

The programme will be introduced by programmer Farah Hasanbegović.
Programme

Een fragment uit de videogame What Remains of Edith Finch (Giant Sparrow, US 2017, 11’)
A depressed stoner works at a cannery chopping off fish heads. A prince navigates a wondrous land all the way to his coronation. Both storylines race against reality. “A painfully accurate portrayal of what daydreaming at work feels like.” (George Weidman)

Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream (Frank Beauvais, FR 2019, 70’)
Freshly single at 45 with no job or prospects, the director copes with a low period in his life by watching 5 films a day. Constructed from a wondrous, rare, relentless stream of film fragments from this lost time, you’re never sure if the director is about to give you a joint or an indirect panic attack. Just Don’t Think I’ll Scream is a touching, darkly humorous and incredibly relevant response to a feeling shitty in a shitty world - and somehow wanting to get better.
The films in this programme are either spoken or subtitled in English.
