Documentary on Marron skipper Boogie, who is summoned by his clan leaders in Suriname to attend a court case involving his cousin. As he travels far upstream, the strong currents become ever more unpredictable.

For centuries, the Marrons in Suriname managed to keep capitalist society at bay. As the descendants of enslaved Africans who had escaped from the plantations, they survived by adhering to the values of their ancestors. Recently, however, economic interests have penetrated deep into the rainforest.
