Alexei Navalny (1976 - 2024) was one of the loudest critics of Putin's regime; With his anti-corruption foundation, he repeatedly exposed the criminal practices and corruption of Kremlin leaders from 2011 onwards. He was followed by millions on social media, and for a while Navalny seemed like a serious alternative to the incumbent rulers.
In the thriller-like documentary Navalny, director Daniel Roher follows the unprecedentedly courageous Navalny, surrounded by his research team and wife and child, during his search - from Germany - for the perpetrators of his 2020 poisoning. The denouement is both absurd and chilling: the Russian secret service will stop at nothing.
