Yuval Abraham, Rachel Szor / GB, 2026 / 78 min.
Revealing documentary about the systems behind the extensive civilian casualties in Gaza. How can killing innocent civilians become so normalised in a military system? Special Jury Prize in Venice for Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor (co-directors of No Other Land).
On the roofs of Tel Aviv, far from the frontline, Israeli soldiers have secret night-time conversations. Gradually, it becomes apparent how the army and intelligence services determine who is a target as well as the technologies and procedures used and how many civilian casualties a strike is allowed to make. Dozens to sometimes hundreds of dead Palestinians can, it seems, be an acceptable price to pay to take out a single target.
