Night and the City

Jules Dassin / GB, US, 1950 / 101 min.

A full-blooded film noir set, not in some American metropolis, but in Soho, in London. The atmosphere is as grim and foreboding as New York or Los Angeles.

In London, Harry Fabian (Richard Widmark) hustles his income together with guile, theft and deceit, all the while dreaming of the big one. The latter seems within reach if he organises a wrestling match. However, by the time he is ready he has made so many enemies that even his girlfriend Marry (Gene Tierney) can’t save him from his doom.
