A visually overwhelming story about a Russian writer researching the life of an 18th-century composer in Italy. Nostalghia premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, but when the Soviet authorities managed to block its chances of winning the Golden Palm, Tarkovsky swore never to work in the Soviet Union again. Vintage 35mm print from Eye’s collection screened as part of the exhibition on Tarkovsky.
