Juan and his wife Esther run a bull ranch in the Mexican state of Tlaxcala. Their relationship comes under severe pressure when Esther starts an affair with another man. A striking detail is that the ranch owner and his spouse are played by filmmaker Carlos Reygadas and his wife Natalia López.
They once agreed to have an open marriage, but when Juan’s wife Esther starts an affair with horse trainer Phil, their relationship is put under enormous strain. Juan accuses his wife of not being entirely open about the affair and starts keeping track of her every movement.
