Once in Trubchevsk
Larisa Sadilova / RU, 2019 / 84 min.
Nothing can ever remain a secret in a small town. No matter how hard people try to cover up their infidelities, the truth will out one day.

Trubchevsk, a town in Russia near the Ukraine border. A truck driver is having an affair with the seductive Anna, who is also married. How do they keep their relationship a secret in a small town where the walls have ears?
Director Larisa Sadilova paints a sensitive portrait of the love between two ordinary Russians who must choose between their love and their loyalties to their spouses. Sadilova inspired her cast to deliver outstanding performances.
As in earlier films, Sadilova made use of non-professional actors, which gives her style a documentary feel. Her second feature film, With Love, Lilly, received a Tiger Award at the IFFR in 2003, while Nothing Personal won the FIPRESCI Award at the Moscow film festival in 2007. The film was previously screened the Cannes Film Festival in the Certain Regard competition.

Screened at prominent national and international festivals, yet never released in Dutch cinemas. Quite unjustly so, Eye Filmmuseum thinks, and so it has once again brought an exceptional selection of films from international festivals to the Netherlands.

Why in Eye
This is already the seventh film by director Larissa Sadilova, though none of her films were ever released in the Netherlands. Once in Trubchevsk is her 'biggest' film so far.
