Plein soleil
René Clément / FR, IT, 1960 / 118 min.
Reissue of René Clément’s suspense classic, based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith and with Alain Delon in the role of charming but deadly master swindler Tom Ripley. 4K restored version marking the film’s 65th birthday.

Tom Ripley, a character created by thriller author Patricia Highsmith, has inspired several filmmakers, including Wim Wenders (Der Amerikanische Freund) and Anthony Mingella (The Talented Mr. Ripley). The great French director René Clément was ahead of both of them. In 1960, he raised eyebrows with his adaptation of Highsmith’s story, under the title Plein soleil.
