Post Tenebras Lux
Carlos Reygadas / MX, FR, NL, DE, 2012 / 120 min.
A young and affluent couple move with their two children into a luxury home in the Mexican outback to live in tune with nature. But it seems as if the house is under a spell. The film won the Best Director Award at Cannes.
The title of Reygadas’ film Post Tenebras Lux refers to a quote from the Book of Job (‘After darkness, light). Reygadas paints a dark and expressionist portrait of human nullity compared with the immensity of nature. It is an overwhelming and magical force against which humankind is next to powerless.
