Cristian Mungiu / RO, FR, BE, SE, 2022 / 127 min.

Cristian Mungiu’s latest film is a fascinating reflection on human nature. When Matthias returns to his parental home in Transylvania, he finds the village where he was born in uproar about the arrival of foreign workers: suspicion, resentment and anger arise.

Matthias has decided to quit his job in Germany to be with his eight-year-old son Rudi. Back in Transylvania, little remains of the bucolic peace of the countryside. The villagers look askance at the arrival of three workers from Sri Lanka brought in by Csilla, Matthias’ former lover, to help out at her bakery.
