Lois Patiño / ES, LA, 2023 / 113 min.

Samsara is a Sanskrit word that refers to the cycle of birth, life, death and reincarnation. Patiño's sensory film – a whirlwind of sound and colour – transports us from the temples of Laos to the beaches of Zanzibar, accompanying a soul passing through.

In Laos, dozens of monks live and study in stunning Buddhist temples. Every day, a young monk crosses the river to read a text that acts as a guide in finding the way to the afterlife to an elderly woman. When the woman dies, her spirit starts a sensory journey to reincarnation in its next body. Completing the journey means allowing yourself to be transported by light and sound. Patiño bombards all of our senses with a whirlwind of sounds and colours, flashing at different speeds.
