Shorts: Shrouded in Silence
IDFA 2026
Meticulously unearthing buried histories and their reverberations into the present; these evocative films perform an exhumation of repression and complicity.

Programme

Then I Saw a Beautiful Horse
While investigating Germany’s former zoophilia laws, and tracing how the language used to justify violence transforms when spoken by those in power, filmmaker Altay Erlik is accused of being a cyber criminal.

Ghazal-e Sorkh
Apart from a half-hearted cultural boycott, the Iranian opposition against the Shah was left to fend for itself. This film essay draws on feature films, news footage, and poetry to interweave international, national, and personal histories.

Man of Seed
On the island of La Palma, stories about the victims of the Spanish Civil War are passed down to the next generation. The landscape, a silent witness to history, also becomes fertile ground for memory in this film.

Spectators
A chilling confrontation with found footage of a Nazi firing squad in Latvia in 1941. The details and insistent repetitions make us into witnesses, whether we like it or not.
