In a puritanical Swiss village during World War II, pregnant servant Emma has to brave the moral hypocrisy of her fellow villagers on her path to independence. Emma learns a harsh truth: in wartime, no one remains neutral.
Switzerland, 1943. In a traditional, Protestant mountain village obsessed by feminine purity, smart fifteen-year-old Emma (the formidable Lila Gueneau) is working as a servant girl for a rich family. In (neutral) Switzerland at this time, a rigid system of social classes and morality imposed from on high was at its peak. This isolated Protestant village community demands subservience, and seeks to control Emma’s body, money and future.
