Simon

Eddy Terstall / NL, 2004 / 100 min.

This winner of four Golden Calves is a humorous and sensitive story about the unlikely friendship between Camiel, a gay dentist, and Simon, an exuberant pubkeeper, whose lives become intertwined after a car crash. Simon is screened to mark the premiere of Terstall’s latest film Meet Me in Venice, a musical trip along the old Orient Express route.

Postersimon

The friendship between dentist and pubkeeper reaches a deeper level when the buoyant Simon introduces Camiel to his hedonistic way of life. Fourteen years later their paths cross again, but Camiel has to learn to his distress that his old friend has cancer. When it turns out the chemotherapy doesn”t work, Simon decides to apply for euthanasia. While his family and friends experience an emotional rollercoaster, Simon holds on to his sense of humour.
