Ben van Lieshout followed the trail of Arctic explorer Fridtjof Nansen, who crossed Siberia more than a century ago. Van Lieshout succeeded in presenting this epic tale on a human scale by focusing on small stories and details. The Dutch filmmaker has previously made films about Russia, including Inventaris van het Moederland (2012) and Petersburg, Places and Paintings (2004).
