Snow and the Bear
Selcen Ergun / TR, DE, RS, 2022 / 93 min.
Turkish filmmaker Selcen Ergun and her crew fought through extreme cold, snowstorms and icy roads to tell this, her debut story. A nurse in an isolated Turkish village encounters a misogynist community riven by superstition and paranoia.
A harsh winter in eastern Turkey. When the extreme conditions prevent the village doctor from returning to his post, the young nurse Asli covers for him. However, Asli is not only an outsider, but a woman to boot and she is ignored on principle in this patriarchal society. After the local butcher mysteriously goes missing, the village is consumed by panic and paranoia. Did he become the victim of a bear awakened from hibernation? However, the acute danger to Asli is not to be found in nature, but among the villagers themselves.
