Ten years from now: a new Ice Age is decimating humankind. A select few survive in the heated express train Snowpiercer. Exuberant film adaptation of an apocalyptic French cartoon, with a stellar cast including Tilda Swinton and John Hurt.
In 2031 a new ice age grips the planet and humans stand little chance of survival. Only those on board the heated intercity Snowpiercer have a chance. However, tensions rise during the train’s 17-year journey: the rich elites bask in luxury at the head of the train, while the poor suffer in the rear ghetto. A violent revolt seems inevitable.

Before Snowpiercer, you will see the satirical short Hot Dollar by British artist Katerina Jebb (2014, 1’), featuring Tilda Swinton as the face and soul of a new perfume, ‘Hot Dollar’. Tilda Swinton hand-picked a short film, either from her rich oeuvre or from Eye’s collection, to precede all feature films.

Bong Joon-ho and I met at breakfast in Cannes. We became fast friends and started - immediately - to think of ways to work together. The film he was preparing had no obvious space for me in it, but, after a week or so, he called me to ask me to consider the role of Minister Mason - described as ‘a mild-mannered man in a suit’. This is what we made of that suggestion.
