So it Goes (muziektheater)
Freek Vielen and jazz improv band The Ambush Party return to So it Goes, a monologue on the human condition, especially for Eye's Shell Shock programme. The performance is based on Slaughterhouse-Five, Kurt Vonnegut’s celebrated novel about his experiences as a prisoner of war in WWII. In ten spoken ‘songs’ Vielen tries to provide an answer to the question of why people continue to willfully inflict pain on others.
The tormented Vietnam War veteran Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver, the soldiers suffering from PTSS in the documentary Crazy and the ex-tank commander of the animated film Waltz with Bashir share one thing: the urge to tell what happened to them in order to come to grips with it. Eye’s Shell Shock provides a forum for the cinematic representation of violent conflicts and traumatic memories.
