In multimedia artist Dan Geesin’s completely idiosyncratic science fiction film the aristocracy of the Antiques rules the underclass, the Bakelites. The prize: access to the antigen Sputum that provides protection from the Bloom, a deadly cloud of fungi.
A world threatened by disaster is a given in what film scholar’s call ‘dystopian cinema’. Dan Geesin and his producer, fellow filmmaker Esther Rots (Kan door huid heen), have also embraced the theme, but not without offering viewers a glimmer of hope.

Before Sputum you can watch the short film Elephant Feet (2011, 15 minutes) by Dan Geesin, the director of Sputum. Thomas, originally from America, experiences strange things during his first night shift at a gas station.
