Valentina Maurel / BE, FR, CR, 2022 / 102 min.
In this feverish yet sensitive debut film, a sixteen-year-old daughter and her father bombard one another with their love and hate. The actors picked up awards for their fearless portrayal of an internal conflict between two tortured souls under extreme pressure.
For her film, Costa Rican-French director Valentina Maurel returned to Costa Rica, where she grew up. This turned out to be the ideal setting for this sultry coming-of-age story about the thin line between love and hate. The parents of Eva (Daniela Marín Navarro) are divorced. She longs to live with her father Martin (José Pablo Segreda Johanning), away from her mother and younger sister, who she can’t stand. But Martin is just as rudderless as his pubescent teenage daughter.
