Tetsuo 2 : The Body Hammer

Shinya Tsukamoto / JP, 1991 / 81 min.

Mix of manga, fantasy, heavy metal and apocalyptic dystopian visions. The body of businessman Tomoo becomes a devastating steel tank; the reason: cyborg skinheads have kidnapped his son and paternal anger triggers the transformation of flesh into avenging machine.

His transformation seems to go hand in hand with the dehumanisation of the living environment into a sterile mass of concrete, steel and glass. To survive, the people of Tokyo have to harden themselves: they begin to resemble their surroundings on both the inside and outside. The special effects and design make Tetsuo II: The Body Hammer a surrealistic cyberpunk artwork.
