The Diary of a Chambermaid
Radu Jude / RO, FR, 2026 / 94 min.
The class that rules, and the class that serves – Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude tackles this familiar theme in his adaptation of Octave Mirbeau’s novel 'Le journal d’une femme de chambre', following in the footsteps of Jean Renoir and Luis Buñuel. Premièred in Cannes.
An upper-class, bourgeois married couple in Bordeaux make extensive use of the services provided by Gianina, their Romanian housekeeper. She cooks, cleans, looks after spoiled son Louen; does everything his parents, Pierre and Marguerite, say they have no time for.
