God has had it with humanity and demands they return the Ten Commandments. Because angels cannot intervene directly, they decide to influence the lives of people on earth. Among them the brilliant linguist Onno Quist (Stephen Fry) and the charismatic astrologer Max Delius (Greg Wise). Archangel Gabriel (Jeroen Krabbé) manipulates history so these two friends meet cellist Ada (Flora Montgomery). This exceptional love triangle leads to the birth of Quinten, a boy with an exceptional calling. After travelling the world, Ada's child becomes the chosen one who is to return the stone tablets.
