The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp
Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger / GB, 1942 / 164 min.
In 1943, Winston Churchill was 'not amused' by Powell & Pressburger’s British army satire. The classic follows General Wynne-Candy from his stubborn, early years as a private, through the Boer War to the dark years of World War Two.
General Clive Wynne-Candy (Roger Livesey) is an older officer serving in London after the Blitz. His personal tragedy is in his love life where he consents to lose the woman he loves (Deborah Kerr) to his best friend (Anton Walbrook), a German soldier. Throughout his life these two people, who mean the most to him, keep reappearing.
