The Love That Remains

Hlynur Palmason / IS, DK, SE, 2025 / 109 min.

Poignant, emotional portrait of a divorce with a surreal, comic undertone. Director Hlynur Pálmason (Godland) got his own children to act; there’s also a major role for the landscape of Iceland. Dog Panda ran away with the Palm Dog Award in Cannes.

Anna and Magnus are getting divorced. But they still regularly spend time together, for the sake of their three children. Magnus is a fisherman and spends long periods away from home; Anna is an artist who paints big canvasses and makes land art, but her work doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
