The Missing

Carl Joseph E. Papa / PH, TH, 2023 / 90 min.

A grounded, yet high-concept psychological science-fiction film telling a delicate, mysterious story through its inventive use of several stylish forms of animation

Eric is a young adult animator unable to find passion in his current animation project. That’s not the biggest obstacle in his way: he doesn’t have a mouth and is unable to verbally communicate. His friend and colleague Carlo and Eric's mother do their best guiding him, but when a strange alien comes to disturb his everyday life, things take a twisted turn.

Utilising several animation techniques (such as rotoscoping) to tell a painfully personal and highly psychological story investigating its main character from the inside out, The Missing is simultaneously heart-warming and heart-rending; exciting and mysterious; a highly original film that could only have told its story through animation.
