The Outsider
Béla Tarr / HU, 1981 / 122 min.
In The Outsider, young nurse András fails in his attempts to make human contact. Like his inspiration John Cassavetes, master Béla Tarr records life as it is lived. New 2K restoration.
Having formerly been brought up by the State, András – nicknamed Beethoven – works on the psychiatric ward of a city hospital, and later becomes a factory worker. He has a unique musical talent, is extremely sensitive, empathetic and autonomous and tries, without any help from any family, training or financial security, to build a meaningful life for himself.
