The Party - Nature Morte

Cynthia Beatt / DEUZE, 1991 / 89 min.

Tilda Swinton is magnetic as Queenie, who during a relationship crisis gives a party for her intellectual friends in Berlin. Stylish, minimalist black-and-white film that sketches out brittle relationships in the Berlin of the early nineties. The world premiere of the restoration by Arsenal will be accompanied by an introduction by Tilda Swinton, Cynthia Beatt en Gesa Knolle.

A couple (Tilda Swinton and Lutz Weidlich) wake up one Sunday in their stylish loft in Berlin and immediately their relationship dives into its umpteenth crisis. So they decide: "It’s time for a party." The festivities turn out to be anything but fun: she humiliates her husband by flirting with an attractive Frenchman, and he gets blind drunk.
