The Sparks Brothers
Edgar Wright / GB, US, 2021 / 140 min.
How can a rock band be at the same time successful, underrated and hugely influential, while remaining virtually unknown to the masses? Sparks’ bizarre adrenaline pop is hauled out of obscurity by fans including Beck, Todd Rundgren, Giorgio Moroder, Björk, Flea, Duran Duran and New Order.
This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us should have been the breakthrough for Sparks, one of the most bizarre bands in pop history. But their psychedelic, ironic music is so absurd that the brothers never really hit the big time. Their kooky adrenaline pop was however admired by a host of musicians and artists, many of whom contribute to this documentary: from Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth to Mike Meyers.
