Robin Hardy’s brilliant folk-horror classic follows pious Christian police officer Howie (Edward Woodward), who travels to a remote Scottish island to investigate the case of a missing girl. The heathen inhabitants of the island seem to be involved in bizarre rituals – think free love and witchcraft – and have sworn allegiance to their leader, Lord Summerisle (horror icon Christopher Lee, who took on the role without a fee).
