Programme
Flat 19 (Joanna Hogg, 2025, 5’)
Joanna Hogg had a scale model made of the London flat Tilda Swinton lived in during a formative time in her life. It is chock-full of memories and provides a key to her experience of that time.
Depuis le Jour (Derek Jarman, 1987, 6')
Aimee Delamain plays an elderly opera singer taking her last bow and reminiscing about an affair from her youth. Whilst thinking back, Tilda Swinton wanders the family’s gardens and various coastal locations. The film was shot for Aria 1987, producer Don Boyd’s omnibus project, which invited ten directors to make short films featuring an opera aria of their choice. Derek Jarman chose ‘Depuis le jour’ from the final act of Gustave Charpentier's opera Louise (1900).
Hot Dollar (Katerina Jebb, 2014, 5')
In this fake perfume commercial, Swinton recites French art theoretician Andre Malraux as if she is auditioning for a Shakespeare production, then provides a behind-the-scenes interview admitting that becoming the face of a perfume campaign is “basically what you become an actress for?”.
The Absent Presence (Hussein Chalayan, 2005, 15’)
Video installation for the Turkish pavilion at the 51st Venice Biennial in which Tilda Swinton extracts DNA from the clothing of unknowns whilst examining the links between identity, biology and the environment.
All Kinds of Love (Casper Sejersen, 2023, 3')
Tilda Swinton declaims the poem All Kinds of Love, written by the Chinese-American poet Walasse Ting for a 1964 Claes Oldenburg lithography for the 'One Cent Life' publication. Danish photographer and director Casper Sejersen works in fashion, film and art.
The Human Voice (Pedro Almodóvar 2020, 30’)
The first English-language film from the master of Spanish cinema Pedro Almodóvar. A short film based on a minimalist play by Jean Cocteau. A woman waits for her ex-lover to collect his belongings. Then the phone rings. The conversation with her ex ends in disaster.
