Torch Song
Jeroen Houben / NL, 2024 / 89 min.
American pop singer Liz comes to the Netherlands to visit her half-brother, who she hardly knows. She decides that his girlfriend is her new muse – turning three lives completely upside down. Jeroen Houben’s English-language feature debut won the Dutch Film Critics’ Award 2024 and features music written by Houben himself.

Following her mother’s death, American singer Liz decides to visit her half-brother, Gabe, and his girlfriend, Joey, in the Netherlands. Gabe sees himself as a talented, up-and-coming novelist. When his flamboyant half-sister arrives, drawing all the attention to herself and her eccentric personality, he starts to feel sidelined. His position gets even worse when it seems that Liz has set her sights on his girlfriend. Liz believes that Joey is her muse: the woman who will inspire her to write new music.
On Friday 31 January, director Jeroen Houben will be present for a Q&A and short live performance before the screening.
