Eye International Conference 2024: Tuning Room
Performative screening by filmmaker Michael Bucuzzo as part of the evening screening programme of the Eye International Conference 2024, interweaving performance with experimental films compiled from commercials and archival footage.
Through a mediumistic channelling of sound, image and text, filmmaker Michael Bucuzzo interweaves a performative lecture with films compiled from American commercials, sound effect libraries, movies and television. Presenting our growing media archives as a kind of materialist spirit world, he suggests that many of our fears, dreams and desires are shaped by mass media to such an extent that we can only live our lives filtered through it.
The risk is that we will be overwhelmed by visual pollution and overdose on auditory stimulation. It's no coincidence that in these works, humanity is notable for its complete absence. Media need only each other and are only concerned with other media. People are no longer necessary to bring new images into the world.
