Une femme est une femme

Jean-Luc Godard / FR, IT, 1961 / 84 min.

Jean-Luc Godard made a highly individual variation of the musical: a 'neo-realist musical', at the same time paying homage to and eviscerating the American tradition: with Anna Karina, Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean-Claude Brialy in fantastic form. Reissue for the 65th anniversary, in a stunning 4K-restored version.

Angéla (Anna Karina), a striptease dancer who wants children, gets tangled up in a casual three-way relationship. With its exuberant colours, humour and the marvellous music by composer Michel Legrand, Un femme est une femme is Godard at his most accessible, but without losing his formal playfulness.
