Beyond the Bolex
UNESCO World Heritage Day: Beyond the Bolex
On the annual UNESCO day for audiovisual film heritage, we are screening Beyond the Bolex: a documentary about the iconic 16mm camera that brings family and film history together. Free entrance.
Jacques Bolsey designed the iconic 16mm camera, the Bolex, in the 1920s. Ninety years later, his great-granddaughter Alyssa Bolsey goes in search of the secrets in his life. From her home country, the United States, she travels to Switzerland, where her inventor ancestor was born. This personal documentary is interspersed with interviews with well-known filmmakers such as Wim Wenders, Jonas Mekas, Barbara Hammer and Peter Jackson – all fans of the Bolex.
Beyond the Bolex is an ode to the 16mm film stock that has been around for exactly 100 years this year, and which on 28 October is in the spotlight in Eye, with several activities and presentations during Home Movie Day 2023.
The annual World Heritage Day was launched by UNESCO to focus attention on the preservation and management of audiovisual heritage, and the organisations that care for this heritage.
Free entrance. Reserve your ticket via 'Buy tickets'.
