About Eye

Intense, sensory adaptation of the eponymous short story by Haruki Murakami. As they drive, a grieving theatre director and his taciturn female driver develop a special bond with the bright red Saab as a vehicle for memories, secrets and sadness. Winner of the Palm for Best Screenplay in Cannes and Oscar nominee Best Motion Picture, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best International Feature Film.

Yusuke Kafuku, a successful thespian and director, is married to Oto, a playwright with many secrets, with whom he has a beautiful life, a painful past and a fruitful artistic collaboration. When Oto suddenly dies, Kafuku is left with the many unanswered questions that always hovered around their relationship. He failed to truly understand her.

His Drive My Car (2021) won this year’s Oscar for Best International Film. Ryûsuke Hamaguchi is the rising star of contemporary Japanese cinema. With the trilogy Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, also from 2021, he steps assuredly into the tradition of the nouvelle vague.

In the film he completed before <em>Drive My Car</em>, which has already been released in the Netherlands, director Ryûsuke Hamaguchi spins the 'wheel of fortune and fantasy' three times.

Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy

One woman, two loves. Sparks fly the moment Asako's and Baku’s eyes meet. But, six months after crashing into her life, he equally dramatically crashes out again, without leaving a trace.

<p>When, a few years later, Asako comes across a man who is the spitting image of Baku, at first she doesn’t understand why he acts like he doesn’t know her, introducing himself as Ryohei. In spite of their external resemblance, adventurous, unfettered Baku and cautious, reliable Ryohei (both played by Higashide Masahiro) are complete opposites.</p>
