Who Killed the KLF?
Chris Atkins / GB, 2021 / 88 min.
Witty, intriguing documentary by Chris Atkins about the rise and fall of dance music act The KLF – the group which disbanded following a string of hits and a tumultuous relationship with the music industry, and then took on the art world.
They brought the international press together at a press conference on inhospitable Scottish islands, getting them to first hand in their passports; travelled to Sweden to ‘apologise’ to ABBA; then shot a big-budget film in Spain, laughingly dispensing with even the idea of a plot or storyline, before deliberately sabotaging their own shoot. Just a few of the Dada-inspired pranks by The KLF, project of polymaths Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty, also known as The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu.
